"A Man Named Martin" DVD Study
Wednesdays, Sep 6 - Nov 29
9:30 - 10:30 a.m., Rm N205
In this study we will look at the man, the moment and the movement.
We will begin by looking at Luther the man, who was a monk in Germany who broke ranks with the Catholic Church because of his Spirit-inspired understanding of God's justification of sinners through faith in Jesus Christ, which was the cornerstone of the entire protestant reformation.
We will also look at the teachings & traditions of the late medieval church that ultimately inspired Martin Luther to nail his 95 Theses to the church door at Wittenberg. The study also examines the fierce debate that followed over Scripture, and church doctrine which led to the new theological position that salvation was given to us by God's grace alone through Jesus Christ alone. We will conclude the study by focusing on how the reformation transformed the society of its day and how the reformation still reverberates in 2017 -- 500 years later!
For more information contact, Pastor Carol Skjegstad via email or 763.231.2983. There is no need to register.

How to Live the Abundant Life
Sep 17 - Oct 15 Study on the Holy Spirit
We will begin studying what the Scriptures teach about the Holy Spirit and discussing/sharing how we can personally experience the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. It has been stated that 90% of Christians in America today feel as if they are fighting a losing battle, yet we know from Scripture that we will be victorious if we live a life dedicated to glorifying God. When Christians experience an intimate relationship with God that is the Holy Spirit at work in their lives.
During this study we will focus on:
Why Jesus told His disciples it was better for them that He was leaving them so the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, could come?
What does it mean to have the Holy Spirit indwelling in us?
What does it mean to live a life in the Spirit; and to grieve the Spirit?
How does the Holy Spirit work in the heart of non-believers?
What does this mean for each of us as Christians today?
Handouts on the Holy Spirit

Learn how Paul, a man who lived by the Spirit of God, wrote of his joy in Christ from a Roman prison when most of his friends had deserted him. The Book of Philippians is a powerful letter of encouragement written to the church in Philippi, as well as the church today.
Join us this Fall as we focus on living the abundant life Jesus promised to His followers led by former BSF teaching leaders Gary Clark & Marcy Zakeer. For more information, contact Pastor Carol Skjegstad at 763.231.2983 or via email. No registration required. Attend when you are able!
Rick Steves' Luther and the Reformation Film
Sunday, Oct 1, 2017
3:30-5 p.m., Sanctuary
Five hundred years ago, Martin Luther kicked-off the Protestant Reformation, which contributed to the birth of our modern age. In this on-hour film -- filmed on location in Europe -- Rick Steves tells the story of a humble monk who lived a dramatic life.
Rick visits key sites relating to the Reformation (including Erfurt, Wittenberg, and Rome) and explores the complicated political world of 16th century Europe -- from indulgences to iconoclasts, and from the printing press to the Counter-Reformation. It's a story of power, rebellion, and faith that you'll never forget.
Come and celebrate our rich Lutheran heritage as we watch this film. Bring friends & family. No cost. No registration required.

Here I Walk: Walk to Rome with Martin Luther
Saturday, Sept 23, 2017
10-11:30 a.m., Minneapolis Central Library
FREE (registration required)
Walk to Rome with Martin Luther! More than 500 years ago, friar Martin Luther left his native Saxony on pilgrimage to Rome. Along the way he traversed Germany, scaled the Alps, witnessed Florence in its apogee, and Rome during its Renaissance. Whats left of Luther's Europe? In 2010, local writer Andrew Wilson set out with his wife Sarah to find out!
Come travel with the Wilson's as they retrace Luther's steps on foot, seeing what Luther saw -- and much of what he didn't see. Revisit the ensuing Reformation too, and learn what's changed in the last 500 years to separate, and to unite Protestants and Catholics.
This event is at the Minneapolis Central Library in Pohlad Hall. Registration is required. For more info or to register for this event go to this link or call 612.543.5669. Questions, contact Pastor Carol Skjegstad via email of call 763.231.2983
