WHO WE ARE

WELCOME HOME!

For over 75 years, the heart of Calvary has been rooted in one simple truth: you have a home here. Whether you’re a lifelong follower of Jesus or you’re still asking questions, carrying doubts, recovering from hurt, or just beginning to explore faith, Calvary is a place where you can take your next step toward Jesus.

At Calvary, you don’t need to have it all figured out. You can belong before you believe. You’re free to ask honest questions and grow in authentic community—through both small groups and large gatherings. You’ll discover opportunities to serve others near and far, and experience the joy of generosity in all its forms. No matter your story, you’ll feel at home! Your next step starts here.

Our Mission

At the heart of Calvary is our mission to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Our mission inspires our worship and groups. It motivates our service to the community and the world. It serves as the foundation of everything we are, do, and believe.

What we do

  • Follow Jesus
    • Following Jesus is a growing experience.
  • Build Community
    • Spiritual growth best happens in a small group.
  • Serve Others
    • We are spiritual contributors, not spiritual consumers.
  • Live Generously
    • We seek to reflect God’s generosity in all we do.

Who we are

  • We do anything short of sin to reach people for Christ.
  • We are known by what we are for, not what we are against.
  • We believe the best about people and explain their actions in the best way.
  • We don’t take ourselves too seriously, but take God very seriously.

Calvary is an independent Christ-centered church with lutheran roots

Calvary has a unique spiritual DNA. Some of our practices can feel ancient and traditional, while others can feel very new and modern. This is not an accident. Our church is shaped by three streams that flow together to form a rich and balanced spiritual life and culture:

  • Evangelical: We are centered on the gospel—the good news of Jesus Christ. His life, death, and resurrection are the foundation of our faith. We seek to know Him deeply, follow Him faithfully, and reflect His love in our lives. We are committed to the authority of Scripture, the call to love our neighbors (the Great Commandment), and the mission to share the gospel with others (the Great Commission).
  • Spirit-Led: We depend on the gift of the Holy Spirit for guidance, power, and transformation. The Spirit equips us for mission, cultivates spiritual gifts, and helps us live out our faith with boldness and love. We believe in the importance and power of prayer.
  • Sacramental: We embrace our rich Protestant/Lutheran heritage of theology and tradition. We value the sacred rhythms of worship (in both modern and traditional styles)—especially communion and baptism—as tangible ways we encounter God's grace. We wholeheartedly affirm the Apostle’s and Nicene Creed. This roots us in the historic Church and draws us into God’s ongoing work around the globe.

Together, these three streams create a vibrant, holistic expression of the Christian life.

Core beliefs

God
There is one God, who eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14)
Jesus
Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully human. He was sent by the Father to live on earth, and freely laid down His life on a cross and rose again after three days. In doing so, He paid the penalty for our sin, and defeated death. (Isaiah 9:6; 1 Corinthians 15:3, 2 Corinthians 5:21)
Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit makes faith possible and calls us through the gospel. The Holy Spirit lives in every believer, gives spiritual gifts, and is a constant teacher, helper and guide. (1 Corinthians 12:3; John 14:26-27, Romans 8:14-17)
People
God created people in His image to have a relationship with Him. We all have chosen disobedience and sin, which fractures our relationship with God. (Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 3:23, 6:23)
Salvation
Jesus Christ alone provides forgiveness and salvation. This is a free gift of grace, which we receive by faith. (Acts 4:12; John 14:6; Ephesians 2:8-9)
Changed Life
Becoming a follower of Jesus leads to a changed life, which is a lifelong journey of growth in selfless love, humility, service and holiness, empowered by the Holy Spirit. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
The Bible
The entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and our authority in all matters of faith and life. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
The Church
The Church is the body of Christ, made up of all who put their faith in Christ. The local church is the hope of the world. (Ephesians 4:4-6, 15-16)
Christ's Return
Jesus Christ will return to judge the living and the dead. (Matthew 25:31)
