A Call to Artists: Parament Design Entries
Just as music is the “handmaiden to theology” (Luther), color complements the message of salvation, reinforcing a specific “colorful” chapter in the life of Jesus. Evolving through the centuries, these colors can be found adorning the altar and pulpit or other podiums from which the Good News is shared,. Rotating annually to represent Jesus’ earthly ministry and other special Sundays they include:
- Sarum blue – Advent, or the days leading up to Jesus birth
- Black – Good Friday, or the day of Jesus crucifixion
- Purple – Lent, the 40 days leading up to Jesus’ death
- Red – Pentecost Sunday, or the day the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples; and Reformation Sunday, or the traditional beginning of the Lutheran Church, begun that day when Martin Luther publicly published his thoughts on a reformed church
- Gold/white – Easter, Christmas & festival Sundays (i.e. All Saints Sunday)
- Green – all other Sundays, symbolic of growth
As we celebrate the remodeling and rejuvenation of our Chapel, it would only seem fit for new cloths or paraments to adorn the altar and pulpit. To submit your design ideas, create your image either digitally or on paper using one of three templates. Then complete the entry form, attaching the images. Deadline for submissions: Monday, Dec. 2.
